On 23 September 2026, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev visited the China-SCO Energy Cooperation Centre and held a meeting with the Centre's Director-General Yi Yuechun.
During the visit, the Secretary-General was briefed on the Centre's key areas of work and results. It was noted that the Centre's activities draw on the expert and scientific potential of the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, which enables it to address both analytical and practical tasks.
The Secretary-General expressed confidence that combining scientific expertise with a practical focus would help deepen interaction among the member states in the fields of energy security and low-carbon development. Representatives of the Centre briefed the Secretary-General on the progress in implementing the “Two 10GW” project announced by the President of the People's Republic of China at the Tianjin Summit Xi Jinping.
The Secretary-General put forward a number of proposals on adding practical substance to cooperation in renewable energy and on possible ways to implement it in the interests of the SCO states.
The parties identified practical areas of interaction: establishing regular contacts, selecting priority projects, preparing analytical materials on renewable energy sources, developing human resources and exchanging experience.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed his support for the Centre's plans and his openness to further deepening the dialogue.
