The mechanism of the Meetings of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the Member Statesof the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation has been functioning since 2009.
To date, four meetings have been held under this mechanism:
- 18 May 2009, Yekaterinburg (Russian Federation);
- 28 April 2011, Astana (Republic of Kazakhstan);
- 5 June 2015, Dushanbe (Republic of Tajikistan);
- 18 August 2022, Tashkent (Republic of Uzbekistan).
During the most recent Meeting, participants conducted a substantive exchange of views on further cooperation among the ministries of internal affairs and public security of the SCO Member States incombatting transnational organised crime, terrorism, extremism and separatism, illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, ammunition and explosives, as well as trafficking in persons. The ministers also discussed countering the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes.
Legal framework in the field of crime prevention, suppression, detection and investigation:
— Agreement on Cooperation among the Governments of the SCO Member States in Combatting Crime(11 June 2010, Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan).
