On September 3–5, 2026, the Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum was held in Shanxi Province, China, under the theme: "Dual Carbon Goals Drive the Energy Transition, Innovation Accelerates a Green Future."
The Forum brought together over 180 participants from 35 countries, including diplomats, representatives of international organisations, foreign government officials, academic circles, and leading corporations.
The participants were greeted by Tang Dengjie, Secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Lu Dongliang, Governor of Shanxi Province.
In his address at the opening ceremony, T.R. Midhun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), highlighted the important role of energy cooperation in the SCO's economic agenda and stressed the need to expand inclusive and mutually beneficial ties in this area. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing the resilience of energy production and supply chains to ensure the stability of the global energy market.
The Deputy Secretary-General also took part in a roundtable alongside representatives of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in China. During the discussion, particular emphasis was placed on the need for a fair and inclusive transition to green and low-carbon energy. It was noted that the SCO Energy Cooperation Development Strategy until 2030 and its Implementation Roadmap provide a solid foundation for advancing practical cooperation. The experience of Shanxi Province in energy sector transformation and modernisation was highly commended.
