On August 31, in Bishkek, on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, at the initiative of the Vietnamese side, a meeting took place between SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Vice-President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vo Thi Anh Xuan.
During the conversation, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for cooperation between the SCO and Vietnam.
Vo Thi Anh Xuan noted her country's interest in developing cooperation with the SCO and raising it to a new level, outlining priority areas. These include security issues, such as countering terrorism, transnational crime, and threats in the information space, as well as the trade and economic dimension. The Vietnamese side paid special attention to the prospects for cooperation in the areas of digital transformation, new technologies, education, and personnel training. Vo Thi Anh Xuan assured that Vietnam, as an ASEAN member state, is ready to help strengthen ties with the SCO.
The Secretary-General welcomed Hanoi's continued interest in developing relations with the SCO with a focus on specific projects. Nurlan Yermekbayev familiarised the Vietnamese side with the main areas of the Organisation's activities, including sectoral cooperation and the intensification of dialogue with international structures, and expressed his readiness to further expand contacts with Vietnam and practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
