On July 15, 2026, during a working visit to Islamabad, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic ofPakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The parties exchanged views on current issues of SCO activities, including Pakistan's upcoming chairmanship of the Organization in 2026–2027. The Secretary-General expressed the Secretariat's readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to Pakistan during its chairmanship and put forward a number of proposals.

During the conversation, the parties touched upon issues related to further improvement of the Organization's work, as well as cooperation in the fields of security, trade, economy, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs spoke in favor of an active role for the SCO Secretariat and supported the Secretariat's proposals on various aspects of SCO activities.

The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening multilateral cooperation within the SCO framework to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.

Following the meeting, the Secretary-General, together with Pakistan's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Amna Baloch, took part in the ceremony of unveiling of a special postage stamp dedicated to the cooperation of SCO member states, as well as in a tree-planting ceremony for the SCO tree in the garden of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The events were also attended by ambassadors of SCO member states to Pakistan.
