On July 6, 2026, a meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing between Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Soeng Rathchavy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the People's Republic of China.
The parties exchanged views on the prospects for developing cooperation between the SCO and Cambodia across a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
They paid attention to following up on the arrangements reached during the meeting between the Secretary-General and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, which took place on June 18, 2026, on the sidelines of the Russia-ASEAN Summit. In particular, the Cambodian side expressed interest in cooperation with the SCO in the areas of security, tourism, and other fields.
Secretary-General Meets with the Ambassador of Cambodia
At the Ambassador's request the Secretary-General briefed him on the progress of preparations for the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State and related events, which are scheduled to take place in late August – early September in Bishkek.
The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere.
By Decision No. 13 of the SCO Council of Heads of State of July 10, 2015, the Kingdom of Cambodia was granted the status of Dialogue Partner. The Memorandum on granting Cambodia the status of Dialogue Partner was signed on September 24, 2015, in Xi'an.
