On July 2, 2026, during a working visit to Tehran, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abbas Araghchi.
The two sides exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and discussed pressing issues on the international and regional agenda.
The SCO Secretary-General briefed the head of Iran's foreign ministry on the preparations for the meetings of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Heads of State to be held in the Kyrgyz Republic, and shared his views on current issues concerning the Organisation's activities.
Nurlan Yermekbayev underscored the consistent position of the SCO member states in respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and in settling any issues through political and diplomatic means.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran briefed the Secretary-General on the current situation in the country and the region.
The two sides reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening cooperation within the SCO and emphasized the importance of continuing constructive dialogue on issues of maintaining peace, security and sustainable development in the region.
