On June 29, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev received Director General of the China-SCO Energy Cooperation Centre Yi Yuechun.
Nurlan Yermekbayev highly commended the Chinese side's efficiency in establishing the China-SCO platform for energy cooperation. He noted the importance of the "10 GW Solar + 10 GW Wind Energy for SCO" programme, which envisages the construction of 10 GW of solar and 10 GW of wind power generation capacity in SCO member states over the next five years.
During the meeting, Centre staff delivered a presentation on the organisation's key areas of activity.
Director General Yi Yuechun informed that the Centre's operations are built upon the expert and research capacities of the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI) – a leading analytical institution in China's energy sector with a history of over 70 years.
The SCO Secretary-General expressed confidence that the combination of scientific expertise and practical orientation would contribute to deepening cooperation among member states in the field of energy.

The parties outlined specific areas of cooperation, including establishing working contacts with relevant agencies of member states, integrating the Centre's activities into the Organisation's multilateral agenda, as well as the possibility of preparing an annual report, organising business events and educational programmes for specialists.
They agreed to explore the possibility of jointly organising an SCO Energy Cooperation Forum in 2027.
The Secretary-General expressed support for the Centre's plans and reaffirmed his openness to further deepening the dialogue.
The parties confirmed their commitment to working together for the benefit of strengthening energy cooperation in the region.
