On June 16, 2026, a briefing by Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev for Permanent Representatives of Member States of the Organization was held at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing.
The Secretary-General informed the participants about recent official visits and working trips, during which meetings were held with heads of state, foreign ministers, as well as representatives of expert and business circles.
In particular, Nurlan Yermekbayev informed on the outcomes of meetings of the Council of Defence Ministers, the meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils, the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security, and the meeting of Heads of Tourism Administrations of the SCO Member States.
The Secretary-General emphasized the productivity of official and working visits to a number of Member States and SCO Dialogue Partners, including the Republic of India, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and Sri Lanka.

The Secretary-General noted that discussions focused on strengthening cooperation within the SCO framework, expanding practical engagement, and advancing joint initiatives.
An important area of activity was the participation of the SCO Secretary-General in international forums and conferences. Nurlan Yermekbayev shared information on the outcomes of his participation in the CIS International Economic Forum in Moscow, the International Forum "Countering Transnational Drug Threats for the Sake of Health and Public Safety" in Samarkand, the International Environmental Summit in Astana, the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028" in Dushanbe, and the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue Forum in Singapore.
The Secretary-General also briefed the Permanent Representatives on the substantive aspects of his trips to regions of China, including the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Hainan Province.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the intensification of cooperation in the areas of politics and security, economy, digital development, culture, education, healthcare, and humanitarian exchanges. During the briefing, an exchange of views took place on the preparations for upcoming events of the Organisation, including the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO.
The Permanent Representatives expressed their support for the work of the Secretariat and underscored the importance of strengthening the unity and potential of the SCO.
