On June 11, 2026, in Karamay, a delegation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Secretariat headed by Deputy Secretary-General T.R.Midhun took part in the 2026 China-SCO Digital Technology Cooperation Development Forum.

This year Forum focused on expanding the application of digital technologies and jointly building a new ecosystem for cross-border digital cooperation.
In his welcoming address the Deputy Secretary-General provided information on the Organisation's documents and existing mechanisms in the field of digital development. He noted that in the Tianjin Declaration the heads of SCO member states emphasised the need to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the digital economy.

T.R.Midhun stressed that one of the Organisation's current tasks is to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth of the economies of SCO member states, including by unlocking the region's potential in the digital economy and technological innovation. In this context, he noted the proposal to hold the Forum on an annual basis.

The China-SCO Digital Technology Cooperation Development Forum is being held for the fourth time under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, with the support of the Karamay Municipal Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The Forum contributes to the exchange of experience in the field of digital solutions.
