A Delegation of the SCO Secretariat Participates in the SPIEF 2026

On June 4–5, 2026, a delegation of the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, led by Deputy Secretary-General Ahmad Saidmurodzoda, took part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg (SPIEF). The plenary session of SPIEF featured addresses by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the United Republic of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Vice Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng.

The Secretariat delegation participated in a panel session titled “25 Years of the SCO: A New Stage in the Development of the Trade, Economic, and Business Agenda,” organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. In his welcoming remarks the Deputy Secretary-General informed participants about the evolution of the SCO’s economic agenda, key documents adopted within the Organisation, and the work of relevant cooperation mechanisms in trade and economic areas.

He also highlighted current initiatives by member states aimed at deepening cooperation in finance, transportation, energy, industry, and other sectors. Other participants of the session included the Russian President’s Special Representative for SCO Affairs, Bakhtiyor Khakimov; President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sergey Katyrin; former SCO Secretary-General Dmitry Mezentsev; and other representatives from SCO member states.

On the second day of SPIEF, at the invitation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the SCO Secretariat delegation took part in a panel session titled “The Role of EAEU Countries in Shaping International Agricultural Production Markets.” In his speech, A. Saidmurodzoda emphasized that sustainable agricultural development and food security are identified as key priorities for cooperation within the Organisation, as outlined in the SCO Development Strategy until 2035, adopted on September 1, 2025, following the Tianjin Summit.

The Deputy Secretary-General also shared his views on ways to enhance interaction between the SCO Secretariat and the EEC in agriculture and food, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding between the two bodies. On the margins of SPIEF, A. Saidmurodzoda held a meeting with the leadership of the Roscongress Foundation and answered a number of questions from Russian media.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) has been held annually in St. Petersburg since 1997. The event is an important international platform for business representatives to network and discuss key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world at large.
