On June 5, 2026, a Meeting of Ministers of Internal Affairs and Public Security of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Member States was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was attended by heads and senior officials of the ministries of internal affairs and public security of SCO member states, the SCO Secretary-General, the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, as well as the Secretary-General of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) and the Director of the Bureau for Coordination of the Fight against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crimes on the Territories of CIS Member States.
The participants conducted a thorough exchange of views on the state of cooperation in the field of law enforcement and public security.

In his address, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that global security is facing new challenges and threats, which require national law enforcement systems to adapt quickly. The most alarming trend is the rapid growth of crimes committed using the Internet, particularly artificial intelligence.
Nurlan Yermekbayev also emphasized that the convergence of cybercrime with drug trafficking and organized crime is a matter of particular concern.
Nurlan Yermekbayev noted: "Currently, active work is underway to modernize the SCO and adapt it to contemporary conditions. The most important element of this process is the improvement of existing and new mechanisms for responding to complex, volatile security threats and challenges through dialogue and win-win cooperation. This also includes, today, the establishment of a system of specialized bodies of the Organization that meets the requirements of the time."
The Secretary-General drew attention to the expediency of comprehensively updating the SCO's treaty and legal framework in the field of crime fighting and enhancing the Organisation's cooperation with INTERPOL and other international structures.

He expressed the readiness of the Secretariat to continue providing full assistance to member states and to make proposals for the development of cooperation.
At the conclusion of the meeting a ceremony was held for the signing of the Protocol of the Meeting, followed by a final press conference.
