On June 2, 2026, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev received Pan Jingyu, Director of the China-SCO Center for Cooperation in the Field of Artificial Intelligence, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing.
Nurlan Yermekbayev informed the interlocutor about the attention of the heads of the SCO member states to the subject of AI, the adopted documents on the development of relevant cooperation, the priorities of the presidency of the Kyrgyz Republic and the upcoming summit of the Organisation in Bishkek this year.

The Secretary General highly appreciated the decision of the Chinese side to establish a China-SCO Cooperation Center in the field of artificial intelligence and expressed the Secretariat's readiness to establish ties of coordination and interaction.
Pan Jingyu said that the new center was created on the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping, expressed by him at a meeting in the SCO Plus format in Tianjin on September 1, 2025. The Director spoke about goals and objectives of the Center, priority areas of work and scientific and technical capabilities. He also made a number of suggestions.
