On 27–30 May 2026, the international golf tournament "Silk Road Golf Championship" was held in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan. The tournament was organized on the initiative of the Golf Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of member states and partners of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Teams from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Belarus took part in the competition. The aim of the tournament was to develop sports cooperation, strengthen friendly ties between the countries of the region, and promote golf across the SCO space.
The participants demonstrated a high level of sporting skill and a commitment to the principles of fair play.
The award ceremony was attended by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan. He expressed gratitude to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the country's Golf Federation for the high level of organization of the event, noting Kazakhstan's significant experience in hosting international sports competitions.
S. Khan emphasized the important role of sport in strengthening mutual trust, developing humanitarian ties, and expanding multilateral cooperation between the states of the region.
The Deputy Secretary-General noted that the tournament is being held within the framework of the "SCO Open Cup" project — a multilateral sports format under the auspices of the Organization. He recalled that during the Meeting of the Heads of Sports Departments of SCO Member States, held in early May of this year in Kyrgyzstan, an agreement was reached to hold the first "SCO Open Cup" golf tournament in Almaty.
