On May 29, 2026, on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Nurlan Yermekbayev met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.

The Secretary-General spoke about the interaction of SCO member states in the spheres related to providing humanitarian assistance in the event of conflicts, natural disasters, and catastrophes. It was noted that this topic has consistently remained an area of focus for SCO member states.

Secretary-General highlighted the constructive engagement of the SCO Secretariat with the ICRC’s regional office in Beijing.

Mirjana Spoljaric Egger informed the Secretary-General about some areas of the ICRC’s activities and current issues on the Committee’s agenda.

Cooperation between the SCO and the ICRC is based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017.
