On May 29, 2026, in Singapore, on the sidelines of the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Nurlan Yermekbayev, met with Ong Keng Yong, Deputy Chairman of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Director of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), and Head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR).

They discussed current issues on the international and regional agenda. They noted that the potential of the "second track" should be used to support the activities of states and international organizations.

Earlier, on May 28, 2026, the Secretary-General visited the Punggol Digital District (PDD), where he was introduced with comprehensive innovative "smart city" solutions used in PDD. The PDD project is designed to unite engineering and IT companies, educational institutions, residential areas, and public spaces into a single ecosystem for the development of startups and businesses, testing experimental technologies, as well as training and employing personnel in the fields of digitalization, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc.

The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University is a prominent Singaporean analytical center working in the field of strategic studies and security issues.

RSIS brings together a number of research centers and programs, including the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, the Centre of Excellence for National Security, the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies, and the Program on Inter-Religious Relations in Pluralistic Societies. The School also offers a number of master's programs.
