On May 22, 2026 in New Delhi during an official visit to the Republic of India, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Nurlan Yermekbayev, met with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
They exchanged views on current issues of the SCO's activities including preparations for the upcoming meetings of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Heads of State this year, the prospects for further development of the SCO, as well as the progress of the Organisation's modernization.

The parties discussed the current international situation, the role, possibilities, and potential of the Organisation in ensuring peace and stability.
The Minister expressed India's commitment to active cooperation within the SCO and emphasized the Organisation's great potential.
The Secretary-General noted India's achievements, which has made significant progress in the fields of the digital economy, IT, and new technologies. During India's chairmanship of the SCO in 2022-2023, the country initiated a number of new areas of cooperation, including startups and innovation, traditional medicine, new types of fuel, and the Buddhist heritage.
The parties touched upon issues related to Afghanistan.
