On May 18, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Beijing the SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in the People's Republic of China, Steven Jackson.
The Secretary-General congratulated Steven Jackson on assuming his duties and wished him success in his new position.
The parties discussed enhancing cooperation between the SCO and the UN. They paid special attention to the interaction between the SCO Secretariat and the offices of the UN's specialized agencies in China, and exchanged views on the role of multilateralism and international organizations in current international relations.
At the request of UN Resident Coordinator Nurlan Yermekbayev outlined current issues on the SCO’s agenda, ongoing efforts to improve the Organisation’s activities, and preparations for the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states scheduled for autumn of this year in Bishkek.
The parties reached an agreement to continue cooperation at the working level.
