On May 14, 2026, the 21st meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was attended by heads and senior officials from the secretariats of the security councils of the SCO member states, as well as the SCO Secretary-General and the Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

Participants held a thorough exchange of views on pressing issues of the current international situation. Particular attention was paid to new risks and challenges, as well as to ensuring international information and cybersecurity.
SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted in his speech that the ongoing complexity of the international situation and emphasized the Organisation's relevance as a platform for developing collective approaches to ensuring security and stability. He highlighted the commitment of member states to strengthening coordination in countering contemporary challenges and threats, including terrorism, transnational organized crime, and cyber threats. In this regard, the Organisation is devoting significant attention to modernizing its security cooperation mechanisms, including the establishment of a number of specialized bodies.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that the SCO has adopted a comprehensive approach to ensuring sustainable security, which includes promoting solutions to socio-economic issues, building trust through cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and fostering interaction in other areas.
