On May 14, 2026, in Bishkek, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Japarov, held a meeting with the Secretaries of the Security Councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states.
The President outlined the key challenges facing the SCO member states including growing geopolitical tensions the conflict in the Middle East, as well as issues of terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking and cyberattacks. He reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's commitment to political and diplomatic ways of resolving international disputes, emphasizing that even the most difficult dialogue is preferable to armed confrontation. The universally recognized norms of international law and the central coordinating role of the United Nations must remain the foundation of international stability and security.
Sadyr Japarov particularly stressed the importance of the SCO as a relevant multilateral platform for building trust, advancing dialogue, and developing collective approaches to ensuring regional security and sustainable development.
The Secretaries of the Security Councils exchanged views on current issues of international security, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening coordination and developing practical cooperation in the interests of ensuring peace and stability across the SCO space.

SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev thanked the President of Kyrgyzstan for his unwavering attention to cooperation within the SCO as well as for the active and substantive chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic noting the high level of organizational work.
