On April 29, 2026, after the Meeting of Ministers of Defence of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Member States in Bishkek, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with the Minister of Defence of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Mukambetov.
The Secretary-General and the Minister of Defense highly praised the outcomes of the past Meeting of Ministers of Defense of SCO Member States, noting its constructive and substantive nature.
It was emphasized that the agreements reached contribute to further strengthening cooperation among SCO Member States in the sphere of security and defence, as well as enhancing the level of coordination in response to contemporary challenges and threats.
The Minister of Defence of the Kyrgyz Republic thanked the Secretariat for its active participation in the preparation and coordination of the Meeting of Ministers of Defence. He reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's commitment to deepening interaction within the SCO framework including expanding practical cooperation between the defence ministries of member states, conducting joint activities, and exchanging experience.

The Secretary-General expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz side for the high level of organization of the event and their traditional hospitality, and noted the significant contribution of the Kyrgyz Republic to the development of multilateral cooperation within the Organisation including the promotion of initiatives aimed at strengthening regional stability.
The parties also discussed issues related to the preparation for upcoming SCO events, including the Organisation's summit in Bishkek, and emphasized the importance of further consolidating efforts to ensure peace, security, and sustainable development across the SCO space.

The Minister of Defence awarded the SCO Secretary-General a commemorative badge "For Strengthening Friendship and Cooperation."
