On April 22, 2026, on the sidelines of the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana, a meeting took place between the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbayev, and the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
Bakytzhan Sagintayev informed about the goals and objectives of the EAEU, reaffirming the priority of strengthening cooperation with the SCO, including through joint events that promote dialogue between the two associations.
Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the progressive development of interaction between the SCO and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), proposing the prompt signing of the Action Plan for 2026–2028 on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the EEC, which has been agreed upon by the SCO member states.
The parties agreed on the further development of cooperation, in particular on holding EAEU Days at the SCO Secretariat. They discussed the planned participation of EEC representatives in SCO sectoral mechanisms and ways to advance joint initiatives on international platforms.
