On April 7–8, 2026, a ceremony celebrating the 130th anniversary of Xi’an Jiaotong University was held in Xi’an, People’s Republic of China.
The event was attended by renowned scholars and representatives of the leadership of leading universities from several countries, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Turkey. The presence of Nobel laureates added particular significance to the occasion, highlighting the university’s high international standing, importance, and role.
In his address Sohail Khan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, emphasized that Xi’an Jiaotong University holds a special place in the rich history of higher education in China. Over the past decades, it has become a symbol of academic and scientific pursuit as well as service to society.

Xi’an Jiaotong University was founded in 1896 in Shanghai. By decision of the Chinese government in the 1950s, the university was relocated to Xi’an. Today, Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the leading higher education institutions in China, widely known for its achievements in science, technology, and innovation.
