On March 30, 2026, a round table on the theme “Unity in the Face of Change: SCO Dialogue on Global Challenges and Threats to Sustainable Development” was held at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing. The event was opened by Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Relations with International Organizations in the field of Sustainable Development Goals, Chairman of the Russian Part of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, Boris Titov. The discussion was also attended by Anton Sviridenko, Executive Director of the Stolypin Institute for Economic Growth (Russia), experts from the SCO Consortium of Analytical Centers, and invited representatives of academic and business circles from the Organization’s member states.
In his welcoming address, Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the joint contribution of the countries of the “SCO community” to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda until 2030, emphasizing that this work is aimed at achieving practical results in areas such as poverty alleviation, energy and food security, healthcare, environmental protection, climate, high technology, digital and green development.

Boris Titov focused on the need to introduce new algorithms for working on the sustainable development agenda for the period after 2030, jointly identifying key challenges within the SCO and developing programs to address them, including through the use of a project-based approach with clear management and financing. It was emphasized that today it is necessary to focus on action tactics with the understanding that this will lead to the development of a new Strategy for a Balanced Future. According to the Special Representative of the President of Russia, the SCO is an optimal platform for implementing these plans.
