On March 5, 2026, a meeting was held at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Secretariat in Beijing between SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and Xu Guixiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Xu Guixiang briefed on the outcomes of cooperation between the XUAR and the SCO member states in various fields, including politics, economy, and culture, emphasizing that the autonomous region consistently regards the Organisation as one of its key international partners. He noted the intention to deepen interaction with the Kyrgyz Republic, which holds the SCO presidency in 2025-2026. Xu Guixiang highlighted the readiness of the XUAR government to organize more joint events with the SCO Secretariat, including those to commemorate the Organisation's 25th anniversary being celebrated this year.

Nurlan Yermekbayev thanked the leadership of the XUAR for its support of the work of the SCO and its Secretariat. He highly appraised the current state of practical cooperation between the XUAR and the SCO in the spheres of economy, trade, and cultural-humanitarian exchanges.
The Secretary-General informed about the Secretariat's plans to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the SCO, proposing that the XUAR government act as a co-organizer for a number of events.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
