On March 2, 2026, in Beijing, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Nurlan Yermekbayev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the People's Republic of China, Majintha Jayesinghe.
The Ambassador reaffirmed Sri Lanks’s interest in the further progressive development of interaction with the SCO and conveyed to the Secretary-General an invitation from the leadership of Sri Lanka to pay an official visit to the country.

The Secretary-General noted that the SCO intends to intensify practical cooperation with its dialogue partners which include Sri Lanka.
The parties exchanged views on the prospects for enhancing contacts on issues of mutual interest.
The Memorandum on granting Sri Lanka the status of SCO Dialogue Partner, was signed in 2010, and covers the following areas: Security issues and the fight against terrorism; Economy; Cooperation in the field of science and technology; Education, healthcare, culture, and sports.
