On February 13, 2026, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing, SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Teresa Cheng, Secretary-General of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).
Secretary-General Yermekbayev congratulated Ms. Cheng on her appointment to this responsible post and wished every success in implementing the agreements of the IOMed founding states concerning the institutional development of the organization.
For her part, Secretary-General Cheng highlighted the growing role of the SCO in Eurasia and outlined the mandate and objectives of the executive body she heads. In particular, she briefed on IOMED’s activities in mediating interstate, investment, and commercial disputes, underscoring the importance of the organization in preventing escalation of differences and preserving partnership relations, including in investment and infrastructure projects.
Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the significance of establishing IOMed as a new intergovernmental platform for the peaceful settlement of disputes and reaffirmed the readiness of the SCO Secretariat to engage in cooperation.
It was agreed to maintain working contacts between the secretariats of the SCO and IOMed.

The International Organization for Mediation (IOMED) is an intergovernmental body providing mediation in international disputes. It was established under the IOMed Convention, signed on 30 May 2025 in Hong Kong. Its headquarters are located in Hong Kong.
