On 10 February 2026, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing, Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Ning Guang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of Ruijin Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
During the meeting the guest informed that the China‑SCO Cooperation Center on Metabolic Diseases, which establishment was initiated by Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, during the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the SCO Member States held in Moscow on 18 November 2025, is scheduled to be launched on 27 February 2026 in Shanghai.
On behalf of the People’s Government of Shanghai and the management of the China‑SCO Cooperation Center on Higher Education, Ning Guang invited the Secretary-General to attend the opening ceremony of the medical center.
Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the significance of this initiative, stressing that health cooperation constitutes an important area of SCO activities that serves the needs of the member states. He wished the new center, established in the 25th anniversary year of the SCO, every success in its future work.
