On December 9, 2025 the International Symposium on the Peaceful Use of Space Technology - Health (IPSpace 2025) opened in Hainan Province, China. The event was organized by the International Peace Alliance under the theme "One Space, One Shared Home" to discuss ways to promote economic development through the peaceful use of space technologies.
Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Piao Yangfan addressed the meeting of the Symposium Presidium members. She noted that the SCO taking into account the views of its member states focuses on building a shared vision of the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity and advancing dialogue on the idea of "One Earth. One Family. One Future." The organization advocates for keeping outer space free from any weapons, emphasizing the importance of strictly adhering to the existing legal framework that ensures the exclusively peaceful use of space.

She underscored that scientific and technological innovations play a significant role in sustainable development and in addressing other key issues, where countries of the Global South must participate on an equal footing in open and fair international cooperation. The SCO anticipates that the use of space technologies will help bridge the digital divide, support disaster relief efforts, respond to climate change, and advance emergency medicine and telemedicine.
It was also emphasized that the SCO is ready to continue working with interested countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, to contribute to improving the global governance system, including the regulation of outer space.
On the sidelines of the Conference Piao Yangfan met with iLuo Ge, Chairman of the China Association of Remote Sensing and co-chair of the Symposium.
