On December 3, 2025 SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Majintha Jayesinghe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the People’s Republic of China, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing.
During the conversation the Secretary-General expressed condolences to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka regarding the significant number of the deceased resulting from the recent floods and landslides in the country.
Nurlan Yermekbayev informed his counterpart about the key areas of the Organization’s activities and the main outcomes of this year’s meetings, including the Council of Heads of Member States, the “SCO Plus” meeting, and the Council of Heads of Government.

The Ambassador confirmed that his country as an SCO dialogue partner is interested in the further development of cooperation within the Organization. The Secretary-General put forward a number of relevant proposals to substantively enrich such cooperation.
The parties discussed prospects for establishing cooperation in various fields, including economy, scientific, educational, and cultural exchanges, as well as the possibility of implementing joint initiatives within the framework of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the SCO. The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere.
