The 8th Annual Conference of the Taihu World Cultural Forum opened in Shanghai on November 18, 2025 under the theme "Mutual Learning among Civilizations and Chinese Modernization." This year's event traditionally brought together representatives from government bodies, leading research centers, public figures and experts from various regions around the world.

In his remarks Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Sohail Khan emphasized the symbolic significance of holding the Conference in Shanghai—the birthplace of the SCO. He noted the relevance of the Forum's theme in contemporary conditions and highlighted the importance of cultural and people-to-people diplomacy, as well as educational cooperation, as practical tools for enhancing trust and mutual understanding among the peoples of the SCO member states.

On the sidelines of the meeting Sohail Khan held talks with Secretary-General of the Taihu World Cultural Forum Zheng Chuanxin. The two sides discussed prospects for expert and organizational cooperation including participation in events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the SCO in 2026 as well as potential joint initiatives to promote cultural diplomacy and youth exchanges.
