On November 5-6, 2025, the 12th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum was held in Urumqi, People's Republic of China, on the theme "Promoting the spirit of China–Central Asia and promoting common Modernization." The event was organized by the Chinese Committee of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation and the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The opening ceremony was attended by Shen Yueyue, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference of the People's Republic of China, Chen Xiaojiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, high representatives of Central Asian states, Sun Weidong, Secretary General of the China-Central Asia Mechanism, and Piao Yangfan, Deputy Secretary General of the SCO.
The Deputy Secretary General noted that the SCO consistently considers Central Asia, which plays an important role in maintaining peace, security and stability in the Eurasian region, as its "core." It was emphasized that today the Organization is one of the key centers of the Global South, acting as an active driving force in building and reforming the global governance system.
12th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum
Piao Yangfan reported on the main results of the SCO summit in Tianjin (September 1, 2025) and on the priority areas of cooperation, including in the context of the celebration of the Organization's 25th anniversary in 2026.
The SCO's continued readiness to continue joining forces with interested countries and multilateral organizations, including the United Nations, the China–Central Asia mechanism, the Eurasian Economic Union and other international institutions, in order to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous future was confirmed.
As a result of the event, the Initiative of the 12th China-Central Asia Cooperation Forum was adopted.
