On 30 October 2025, a meeting of experts from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states on the development of physical culture and sports was held via videoconference at the initiative of the Russian side. The event brought together representatives of the relevant SCO states’ ministries and agencies.
During the meeting, the participants discussed Russia’s initiatives to establish a working group on physical culture and sports within the SCO and to organise an international sporting event in 2026 with the engagement of interested member countries.
The discussion focused on practical steps to develop sports cooperation within the SCO, promote healthy lifestyle ideals, and strengthen humanitarian ties.
The participants agreed that implementing the proposed initiatives would help deepen mutual understanding and friendship in the Shanghai spirit, as well as create new opportunities for the development of both amateur and professional sports across the SCO region.
