On October 25, 2025, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev took part in a gathering dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's recovery from Japanese occupation. The event took place at the Great Hall of the People.
Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning delivered a keynote speech. He emphasized that the establishment of the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration demonstrates the unwavering commitment of all ethnic groups in China to upholding the one-China principle, safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reaffirmed that Taiwan is an integral part of China. He called for adherence to the principles of peaceful reunification and “one country, two systems,” defense of the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and joint efforts to preserve the significant achievements of the victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
The event brought together around 500 representatives from various sectors of Chinese society, including compatriots from Taiwan, as well as heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Beijing.
On October 24, 2025, during the 18th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress, a resolution was adopted establishing October 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration.
