On September 19, 2025, Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with European ambassadors accredited to the People's Republic of China and the head of the EU Mission to China at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing.
SCO Secretary General Meets with Ambassadors of European Countries in China
The Secretary General informed about the main areas of cooperation within the SCO, including the joint work of the member states in the areas of maintaining regional security and stability, developing trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Special attention was paid to the results of the SCO summit events held on August 31 – September 1 – the meeting of the Council of Heads of State and the SCO Plus meeting.

In his speech, Nurlan Yermekbayev noted that the SCO adheres to a line that excludes blocky, ideologized and confrontational approaches to solving pressing international and regional problems, strictly following the principles set out in the Charter of the Organization, including non-targeting against other states and international associations. He stressed that the development of relations with international and regional organizations that share the goals and principles of the SCO is among the Organization's priorities. The heads of the diplomatic missions were familiarized with the positions of the Member States on topical issues on the regional and international agenda, as well as with the statements adopted by the Organization.

During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on ways to expand cooperation between the SCO and European countries. The Secretary General answered questions regarding various aspects of the Organization's activities.
The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere.
