On September 17, 2025, at the invitation of the China, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev participated in the Global Forum on Cooperation in the Field of Public Security in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China.
Wang Xiaohong, Member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Minister of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, opened the event on the theme "Joint formation of global public security: united actions against diverse threats." The delegates included heads of law enforcement agencies of several states, senior officials of international organizations, experts, and representatives of the business community.

In his speech at the plenary session, the Secretary General informed about the achievements of the SCO in the 24 years since its establishment in terms of increasing multilateral cooperation, primarily in maintaining peace, security and stability in the Eurasian region. Nurlan Yermekbayev shared his vision of the current international situation and spoke about the steps taken by the SCO in the context of an effective response to modern challenges and threats.
The results of the Tianjin SCO Summit (September 1, 2025) and the importance of the decisions taken by the leaders for the further development of the Organization were outlined. In particular, the process of expanding the network of specialized structures within the SCO was noted, including the establishment of the SCO Anti-Drug Center (Dushanbe) and the Universal Center for Countering Security Challenges and Threats (Tashkent), which includes the Information Security Center (Tashkent) and the Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime (Bishkek).

The Secretariat expressed its readiness to continue actively assisting the SCO Presidency and other member States in the implementation of the tasks set by the leaders of the SCO member States in order to bring cooperation to an even higher level in the interests of ensuring peace and prosperity in the region.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Nurlan Yermekbayev met with INTERPOL Secretary General Valdesi Urquiza and UN Deputy Secretary General Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and also participated in the opening of an exhibition of technologies and equipment in the field of public security.
