On September 8, 2025, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing, Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the People’s Republic of China, Khalil Hashmi.
The Secretary-General expressed condolences in connection with the tragic consequences of the floods in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He also noted the importance of strengthening practical cooperation within the SCO framework in disaster response, including the development of mechanisms (funds) for providing assistance in emergency situations.
The Head of Pakistan’s Mission, in turn, congratulated the Secretary-General on the successful holding of the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in Tianjin.
SCO Secretary-General Meets with Ambassador of Pakistan
During the conversation, the parties discussed the implementation of decisions of the recent summit and ensuring the successful conduct of Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship in the Organization. In addition, the interlocutors exchanged views on a wide range of issues, including political cooperation, security support, interaction in trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian spheres, and the improvement of the Organization’s activities.
Nurlan Yermekbayev expressed confidence that the dynamic development of the SCO will continue on the basis of the accumulated experience and the introduction of new ideas that correspond to modern realities.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, under the sign of mutual commitment to ensuring the successful development of the SCO.
