On July 24-25, 2025, a Summit of media and Analytical centres within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Zhengzhou (Henan Province, China), organized by the Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the People's Government of Henan Province. The theme of the event: "To spread the Shanghai spirit, to build a beautiful house together." The Summit was attended by about 400 delegates from 26 SCO countries, international and regional organizations, including representatives of 200 leading media outlets, well-known think tanks and government agencies.
At the opening of the event, a message from the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov addressed to the participants of the event was read out. Welcoming remarks were also made by the Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Head of the Press Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the General Directors of the Xinhua and TASS news agencies, the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Secretary of the Henan Provincial Party Committee and other high-ranking guests.
In his speech, Kazybek Kochkonov, Adviser to the SCO Secretariat, stressed the importance of actively involving representatives of analytical centers and the media in the activities of a full-fledged "second track". It was noted that think tanks and the media are able to support the decision-making process, generate ideas aimed at further developing cooperation, as well as modernizing the Organization in accordance with the requirements of modern realities of multilateral relations.
During the panel sessions, the event participants discussed the role of the media and think tanks in strengthening traditional friendship and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation within the Organization, as well as developing conceptual proposals for an effective response to modern challenges and threats of a global and regional nature.
An event "Tea party with ambassadors" was organized on the side-lines of the Summit. Immersion in Zhengzhou", during which an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between the regions of the SCO countries using the example of Henan Province.
