On July 11, 2025, in Tianjin, the SCO Secretary General took part in the opening ceremony of the SCO Digital Economy Forum, organized by the State Data Administration of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Tianjin. The event was opened by Ding Xuexiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
The forum, aimed at creating an ecosystem of SCO cooperation in the field of the digital economy, was attended by representatives of governments, relevant departments, business, expert and public circles of the SCO countries.
N.Yermekbayev addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, informing about the work carried out in the SCO to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of digital economy and innovation. The priorities of the Organization within the framework of the digital agenda are outlined, including reducing the digital divide, developing e-commerce and ensuring international information security.
The Secretary General wished success in holding the upcoming important meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of SCO Member States in Tianjin, and also expressed the SCO Secretariat's full support for the preparation and organization of these events.
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Communications of Myanmar Mya Tun Oo, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavkizoda Zavki Amin, Deputy Chairman of the State Statistics Committee of Belarus Natalia Tarasyuk, as well as Mayor of Tianjin Zhang Gong.
Thematic sub-forums dedicated to the integration of the digital and real economy, digital cooperation between universities, analytical centres and SCO cities have been organized on the side-lines of the dialogue platform.
On the eve of the event, Nurlan Yermekbayev, together with the heads of the SCO delegations, met with member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, as well as member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Tianjin Chen Chen Miner.
