On July 9, 2025, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization hosted a presentation of the trade and economic potential of Shenyang for the SCO countries, organized by the SCO Secretariat in cooperation with the People's Government of Shenyang. The event was attended by SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev, Vice Mayor of Shenyang Duan Jiyang, diplomats and representatives of national companies from the SCO Community, as well as heads of leading enterprises and business associations in Shenyang and Liaoning Province.
In his welcoming speech, Secretary General of the SCO spoke about the achieved results of the Organization's cooperation, including in the trade and economic sphere. It was noted that the SCO is actively working to strengthen the practical component of trade and economic cooperation, focusing on maximizing the use of resources from non-governmental organizations, business associations, demonstration and convention and exhibition venues in the SCO space.
Nurlan Yermekbayev outlined broad prospects for expanding cooperation between Shenyang and the SCO countries in the development of advanced manufacturing, production of high-tech equipment, trade, logistics and other relevant areas. The SCO Secretariat confirmed its readiness to assist the efforts of the SCO regions in expanding cooperation in the interests of the Organization's sustainable development.
In his speech, the Vice Mayor of Shenyang, Duan Jiyan, informed about the key indicators of the socio-economic development of Shenyang, confirming the region's interest in building contacts and practical cooperation with the SCO countries in various fields.
The event included presentations by companies from the SCO member states, B2B sessions and negotiations between interested participants, as well as information booths from leading enterprises in Shenyang and Liaoning Province.
On the sidelines of the forum, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev met with Vice Mayor of Shenyang Duan Jiyang, during which specific directions for enhancing SCO interregional cooperation with the participation of Shenyang in the economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed.
