On July 3, 2025, in Beijing, the Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Piao Yangfan, took part in the 13th Global Peace Forum, organised by Tsinghua University and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. The theme of this year’s event was “Advancing Global Peace and Prosperity: Shared Responsibility, Mutual Benefit and Win-Win Outcomes.”
At the opening ceremony, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng delivered an address.

The Forum brought together more than 300 participants, including former senior political figures, diplomats, representatives of international organisations, experts and scholars from various countries.
The SCO Deputy Secretary General also participated in plenary sessions on the themes “International Order and Universal Peace” and “Desecuritisation and the Global Security Dilemma,” and was one of the main speakers at the panel discussion “The SCO and Regional Cooperation in the Field of Security.”

In her speech, Piao Yangfan spoke about the history of the SCO’s founding and development, its principles and goals, and provided information on the achievements of cooperation in the field of security. She emphasised that the SCO, while upholding the principles of its Charter and keeping pace with the times, will continue to make its contribution to ensuring international peace and stability, safeguarding justice and equality, and promoting the joint development of all countries.
Forum participants highly appreciated the important role of the SCO in maintaining regional security and stability, and expressed their readiness to strengthen interaction and expand cooperation with the Organisation.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Piao Yangfan also held a meeting with Sun Xuefan, Dean of the School of International Relations at Tsinghua University.
The Global Peace Forum has been held annually in China since 2012 and became the country’s first high-level non-governmental discussion platform dedicated to security issues.
