In the period from July 3 to July 4, 2025 in Shenyang, SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev took part in the SCO People's Diplomacy Forum and the SCO 2025 Twin Cities Forum, organized by the SCO Chinese Committee for Good Neighbourliness’, Friendship and Cooperation (GNFCC), the People's Government of Liaoning Province and the Chinese People's Society for Friendship Abroad.
On the eve of the Forum, a collective meeting of the heads of delegations took place with the leadership of Liaoning Province and Shenyang City. Speaking on behalf of the participants, N.Yermekbayev noted that people's diplomacy organizations are actively operating in most of the SCO member states.
Speaking at the opening of the Forums, the Secretary General noted that mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the SCO member states are becoming increasingly important, and public diplomacy has become an integral part of the SCO's multifaceted activities. He stressed that the Organization welcomes the development of twinning relations, supports international cultural and tourist routes, school and university exchanges, and joint artistic and educational initiatives.
N.Yermekbayev expressed confidence that the results of the Forums will be continued in concrete projects and new formats of interaction for the benefit of prosperity and sustainable development of our countries and peoples.
The event was attended by Ms. Shen Yueyue, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference of the People's Republic of China, Chairman of the GNFCC, Marat Imankulov, Secretary of State of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ziyafat Asgarov, First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Hao Peng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Liaoning Province, Wang Xinwei, Governor of Liaoning Province, and others.
The forums dedicated to the theme "Deepening people's friendship and promoting sustainable development" brought together more than 300 representatives of political, business, cultural circles, regions of over 20 SCO member states, observers and dialogue partners. During the Forum, a number of documents were signed between the participants and the heads of the regions of the SCO community.
On the side-lines of the event, N.Yermekbayev gave interviews to some Chinese and foreign media.
