On July 3, 2025, the 6th Meetingof Heads of Ministries and Departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member States responsible for Environmental Protection on the topic "Cooperation for the Green, Sustainable and Low-emission Development of the SCO member states" was held in Tianjin under the chairmanship of the China in a hybrid format.
During the discussion, the heads of delegation noted the importance of further deepening cooperation in the field of promoting sustainable and low-emission development, and also stressed the need to consolidate efforts to respond to common environmental challenges, including climate change, loss of biodiversity and environmenta lpollution. Special attention was paid to expanding the exchange of knowledge, technologies and best practices in the field of effective waste management, including in the context of the implementation of the Statement of the Council of Heads of SCO Member States on Effective Waste Management.
Following the Meeting, a Joint Statement was signed and an Initiative was adopted to strengthen cooperation between the SCO member states in the field of sustainable development.
