On 18 May 2025 in Tehran, Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, was received by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, as part of his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian President congratulated Nurlan Yermekbayev on assuming the office of the SCO Secretary-General and reiterated his full support for the work of the Secretariat.
He praised the Organization's significant contribution to peace, security and stability in the region.
The Secretary-General, in turn, expressed his sincere gratitude to the President for the warm reception and informative conversation. Mr. Yermekbayev emphasized the active role of the Iranian side in promoting multilateral cooperation within the SCO.
The conversation touched upon the issues of further improvement of the Organization's activities, China's chairmanship in the SCO and preparations for the upcoming SCO Summit to be held in Tianjin.
