On May 17, 2025 in Tehran during the official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbaye met with the Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
Nurlan Yermekbayev expressed gratitude to the Iranian partners for their active role in promoting cooperation in key areas, including trade and economic, cultural, humanitarian, transport and logistics spheres.

The sides discussed preparations for the upcoming meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State of the SCO member states, as well as other events of the Chinese presidency. The sides exchanged views on regional security issues and measures aimed at countering modern challenges and threats.
The Secretary-General stressed that the key task of the Organization today is to translate the agreements reached at various levels into practical terms and deepen substantive cooperation. In this context, the interlocutors exchanged views on the process of modernization of the Organization's activities with a focus on increasing efficiency, effectiveness and the ability to respond promptly to major events.

Nurlan Yermekbayev highlighted the constructive initiatives of the Iranian side aimed at strengthening the authority of the Organization in the international arena, developing multifaceted cooperation, ensuring regional stability.
The Foreign Minister supported the Secretary General's proposals concerning the Organization and assured of the Iranian side's readiness to continue to provide comprehensive support to the activities of the SCO Secretariat.
