On May 17, 2025 in Tehran during the official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Ermekbayev held a meeting with the Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Ebrahim Azizi.
They issues related to the preparation and content of the upcoming events within the framework of China's presidency in the Organization were discussed.
An interesting discussion was held on the role of the SCO in ensuring stability in the vast Eurasian region. The interlocutor noted the need for more active involvement of the Organization in regional processes.
The Secretary General shared information on the results of the SCO Political Parties Forum held in Urumqi (China) on April 23 this year, on the activities of the SCO missions to monitor the presidential and parliamentary elections and referendums. In turn, Ebrahim Azizi expressed interest in the participation of Iranian representatives in the work of the relevant delegations.
In addition, the sides discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation in ensuring regional security, expanding international contacts, stimulating trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian exchanges, improving transport and logistics infrastructure, forming mechanisms for financial support of the Organization's activities.
The SCO Secretary-General also held a talk with Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the country Ali Ahmadian.
Ali Ahmadian assured of the Iranian side's readiness to promote interaction within the Organization, noting the growing role of the SCO in the formation of a multipolar world.
The Secretary General, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for its contribution to strengthening cooperation in the SCO format, and briefed on the implementation of the action plan for the current year, including preparations for the high-level and summit meetings during China's presidency in the Organization.
The parties exchanged views on the international political situation in the region and the world. Special attention was paid to ensuring food, energy, environmental and sanitary-epidemiological security.
