On 15 May 2025, Secretary-General Nurlan Ermekbayev met with the head of the regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the People's Republic of China, Balthasar Stehelin, at the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing.
The interlocutors discussed the status and prospects of interaction between the two organizations on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017.
The Secretary-General inquired about the work of the ICRC emergency relief mechanisms.
The guest, in turn, briefed the Secretary-General on the ICRC's actions to provide humanitarian assistance to the population in conflict zones and on the organization's experience in responding to natural disasters in various regions of the world.
