On May 12, 2025, the 8th meeting of heads of territorial emergency management organs of border regions of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held in Shanghai. The event took place in a hybrid format under the chairmanship of the People's Republic of China.
Representatives of relevant bodies of SCO member states participated in the event, as well as delegates from Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Beijing Office of the UN Program on Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response (UN-SPIDER).
Issues discussed included strengthening cooperation in the prevention and elimination of consequences of emergencies in border regions, enhancing readiness to respond to cross-border risks, improving mechanisms for information exchange, and conducting joint exercises.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to further developing practical cooperation, exchanging experience and best practices in the field of civil defense, and expressed readiness to increase coordination of efforts within regional response mechanisms.
