On April 29, 2025, consultations were held in Beijing between the secretariats of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. The delegations were led by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Ahmad Saidmurodzoda and CICA Deputy Secretary-General Zhang Ling.
During the meeting, the provisions of the 2014 Memorandum of Understanding between the executive bodies of the two organizations were analyzed, with an emphasis on defining specific modalities for future joint work. It was agreed, in particular, to coordinate with member states the issue of holding a trilateral SCO-CICA-UN event on sustainable development in the second half of 2025.
A mutual briefing was also held on current agenda issues within the SCO and CICA and on the experience of developing their international ties. Representatives of the CICA Secretariat were provided with information on the implementation of the decisions of the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting held in Astana on July 4, 2024, on the preparations for the next Organization summit scheduled for autumn 2025 in the People's Republic of China, and on the process of improving the SCO.
The consultations were held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
