On April 18, 2025, during an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, delivered a speech at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on the topic: “The Role of the SCO in a Changing World Order.”
The Secretary-General informed the audience about the multifaceted activities of the SCO, highlighting Pakistan's contribution to its development and noting the potential for steadily enhancing cooperation within the Organization.
Nurlan Yermekbayev emphasized that the SCO serves as a reputable platform for advancing the regional and global agenda, including ensuring security, promoting economic development, and fostering cultural and humanitarian interaction.
He noted the ongoing efforts to improve mechanisms for countering contemporary challenges and threats, facilitating trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation within the Organization, and developing the SCO’s international relations.
The Secretary-General also answered questions from participants regarding regional and international issues.
